the road, and made the same statement to witness afterwards. Said he was whipt in Mr. Walkers land about a mile from Mr. Hawkes house. Said it was on Thursday night he said he was whipt - he made the confession freely without any compulsion - the last statement was made at witness house Mr Henry was present. He was in witnesses custody at the time and under his protection. Negro said he was going to Mr Avery and some men met him and hollowed at him he ast them what they were hallowing at him so long for they said he had better be at home at work and took him down & whipt him. Mr Walkers land he thinks is five or six miles from Mr Statham Walkers land is in Webster
