Sir
The freedman Simon Livingston is to go where he pleases but with definite instructions to get some friend to write his address plainly and send it to this Office as soon as he finds a home. If he wants to come here tell him to come at once to this Office and a place can be easily found for him in this neighborhood, where he will be handy if he should be needed.

My original orders were to put the boy out of harms way, which as all the harm had been had been done had been done to him did surely not mean to keep him in custody all the time, which it seems you have done. You are aware that in criminal cases where the parties are insolvent the cost must be paid by the county.

You are respectfully requested to state the reason by which you assumed jurisdiction in Simon Livingstons case if his employer Statham lived out of the limits of your county.

I am, very respectfully
Your obed. servt.
