My Dear Sir:
You have seen by the papers that New York's taking hold of the work of giving aid to the suffering people of the South. But the Commission need information, specific and reliable, as to the actual extent and severity of the destitution in your   State, and also how best to distribute supplies, so that they shall reach all classes of sufferers. You have facilities for knowing facts and making suggestions that will be of great value to the Commission.

Permit us to rely on you for an immediate answer to this note, giving such information and advice.
