I have had in my possession for the past seven or eight years, two orphan colored children viz Ed aged 12 years. and Ella 6. They were left me by their Mother, when the little girl was only 17 months old, since which time, she and the boy, have been raised in my house with my children, and I have endeavored to perform my duty to them, in every respect not only for duty's sake, but because I was much attached to their mother as well as to them. 

They were bound to me by Capt Slaughter when he was stationed here. and more recently by the civil court, yet in the face of all this your  [[?]] Sabaltino here has forcibly taken them from me - and because I resisted his Authority in the act, I have suffered at the hands of his underlings, the most insolent contradictions, threats, and flourish of muskets and bayonets they forcibly entered my house, acting under his order - and when they arrested my husband, they cocked their muskets and and levelled their bayonets directly at me, with loud and wicked oaths, for I stood between
