It is very annoying to me to have it continually thrown in my face that I am a negroe when I do not know whether it is a fact or not - My services during the war was just as acceptable as any other man's and they was appreciated - and I was promoted for gallantry - I served the Country four years and three months earnestly & faithfully, and carries to day a fractured scull and a scarred side as the result of my devotion
