I am just returned from a trip to those Counties to which I am assigned to duty and find awaiting me an order establishing my Hd. Qurs. permantly at Dahlonega in Lumpkin Ga

When I left home it was with the belief that I was to be located at some point on the line of the Rail Road knowing as I did and as I supposed you did that there are but very few Freedmen in those Counties

At the time Maj de la Mesa asked me to accept an agency it was to have been for my own Senatorial District with Hd. Qrs. at this place where I am residing with my family and could I have received the appointment for this District of course it would be much more pleasant to remain with my family than to be seperated from them. however I have served my Country too long to murmur at an order from a Superior therefore will proceed to where
