P. 2

Although Frank wrote to you, describing this project as an "Anthology", it was really a rather personal selection, and looking back it would have been a rather dominantly "New York School" in both selections, with the exception of Knaths and Elliott Stein!

When I can get to it, I will grit my teeth and look through those tons of letters. I have lots from Denise and Barbara I know, not much from Frank and John.
I do have two or three ink nude sketches of Frank, quickly and boldly done, very free. They have a gesture of his body. I have never shown them or reproduced them, of offered them to anyone. I made a large oil, rather abstract of Frank, before Larry did I believe, when we first met practically, but sadly I don't think it is very good. The drawings are fresh and authentic.
I am glad you wrote after all these years and that you have my drawing. That was through Frank wasn't it? I loved him and was distraught at his death.

At the moment I am acting as executrix of the estate of Howard Griffin, the poet and essayist who was also part of that group. I got to know Howard well after 1960. He left over 40 journals and many hundreds of poems and articles on painting, incl. the work of Joseph Cornell. He died in his home in Sautens, Tirol, Austris, Oct. 2, 1975.

For the future, my address in Gloucester is : 3 Ledge Road, G., Mass. 01930. We go back there in May after my show at Poindexter: April 13, to May 8. This is to be a double show held in two places. One section retrospective, one recent work.

Forgive such a long letter but after 15 years!

All the best,
N

I shall send you a catalog of my travelling retrospective of '74-75 as it contains biographical data which might be useful.
