COPY OF A POST CARD JULY 14, 1983
FROM MARTICA SAWIN, ART HISTORIAN AND ART WRITER (HEAD, ART HISTORY, PARSONS)

July 14

Dear Nell,
There is a good Monet show in the Cultural Center of the Marais and Manet in full glory at the Grand Palais besides many others treats that I haven't yet caught up with, it having been extraordinarily hot and teaching consuming my store of energy. Hope you are well settled in Gloucester, with perhaps a trip to sautens in the Spring. I always think of you as The godmother of this program here, since your sending me to Austria was the beginning. Lee just called to say he had arrived and we will drink your health together this Bastille Day. Took students to Giverny for 3rd time and finally the gardens are more abundant though nothing like Monet's time, and the water is clearer, less muddy so the reflections are superb, willows, scudding clouds of masses of color. The later Monets in the Marais show have a fine + disciplined hand like yours, but his paint is heavier. gobs and ridges to pick up more light. Love, Martica
