Dear Nell Blaine,

Thanks for your nice note. I'm delighted that you like the card enough to request a fresh copy & so I'm enclosing a couple. (Color varies a bit and is somewhat different from the painting, but people seem to like the announcement - I guess they never come out accurate)

Was it Brewster Mass. on N.Y. you referred to? Someone else remarked that it looked like someplace upstate N.Y. - but it is actually in Maine - our summer place, town of Jefferson, Lincoln County near Damariscotta Lake, if you know Maine at all. We bought an old farm there 14 years ago and its on a gently sloping hill about 400 ft. elev. That particular view is from the meadow out in back of the barn (studio) looking North - actually it is a bit of a composite, as one can't see those rounded hills unless one is in another spot some distance away and a bit higher. But it really started with the cloud - one of those monster cumulus things that just sits there in the late afternoon, and you think - would anyone believe it if you painted it?

You know, I have known and enjoyed your work for a long time - it is always like a breath of fresh air. I liked your recent show at Poindexter. The watercolors & drawings as well as oils - Raoul Middleman was with me that day & he liked it too - do you know his work? He had a beautiful show of seashore (cape cod) paintings at Allan Stone in January.

Anyway, I know we have several mutual friends and its surprising that out paths have never crossed - directly.

Well, my show is up and that is a relief - I feel a bit exhausted at this point, but otherwise satisfied with the way it looks, and I even enjoyed the openings! I hope you'll be able
