Dear Nell -

You must be wondering why you have not rec'd your drawing before this - well it is a sad story - not about its picture (it is O.K.) - but about me.

Early in Sept. I rec'd a notice from my landlords increasing the rent on my house - not a little - but astronomically - making it more than I could afford.

Fortunately, I was able to rent a very pleasant 4-room apartment not far away, which a friend was vocating (to move nearer her work in Danvers), and I arranged to move into it on October 15th.

Then I was taken ill with an infected foot from a fall, and with my trouble (did you know that I have diabetes?) it was extremely dangerous, and I had to go to the hospital in gloucester on September 18th
