CROSS, The International Community for the Relief of Starvation and Suffering, was formed recently in reaction to the dismaying failure of over thirty years of world-wide efforts to feed the starving poor, well-intentioned endeavors which have, unfortunately, resulted in the demoralization of the recipients so that they have entered the ranks of those who remain on permanent dole. An entirely volunteer organization, CROSS works [[underline]] within [[underline/]] cultural parameters to make the needy and the afflicted self-reliant and self-helping. CROSS distributes seeds compatible with native agricultural practices. CROSS distributes foodstuffs and medicines compatible with local diets and implementive of their needs. The doctors and nurses of CROSS train native workers in primary, fundamental health procedures. Wherever raw misery exists we hope to be, in this nation as well as abroad. The multiple approach of CROSS is building a network of techniques and attitudes directed at liquidating the problems of the chronically deprived and newly deprived. I have organized SMALL AND STUNNING, a benefit exhibition and sale of contributed works of art to be held at the Benson Gallery, Bridgehampton, on May 1, from 5-8 p.m. All monies realized go directly to those most in need. I do hope you will care to submit a small framed painting, sketch, pastel, collage, drawing, watercolor, or print. From your past commitments, I know you to be compassionate. I enclose a postcard for your reply. With many thanks, Bob Robert Dash National Committee, CROSS
