innocent toes. The water was cold & I stayed in longer than was wise. I was endeavoring to learn to swim in a new way. George was with me & I nearly strangled when I first caught sight of him approaching me. He looked exactly as though he were sitting up on a chair, or a sofa, & simply dangling his legs - as small boys do. His head & shoulders were above water. I burst out laughing, which a wavelet mistook for an expression of thirst & promptly entered my mouth. But I couldn't help laughing. There was something deliciously funny to me in the quiet position of the body, the long thin neck & shoulders sticking out of the water & only the legs moving - to all appearances, in
