Dear Mrs. Ladd,

I feel so terrible about having delayed my letter to you and hope that you will have forgiven me in your heart when you understand the motive. It gave Maynard great anxiety, but above all, you perhaps who were ill at the time. I cannot forgive myself.  As soon as I heard he had reached home safely I sent my letters. It was very sweet & kind of you to write when it must have cost you much in sheer physical effort.

I heard many [[strikethrough]] times [[/strikethrough]] nice things of your daughters through Mrs. Edward Tandian (this is as near as I can decipher the name; Mama) (Hazel Martyn) of Chicago. I think they have a mutual friend there. Eirene's letters are charming.

Please tell you husband that I felt sure he would have been amused about the information we received from England, concerning weddings there.You see to be married in an English Cathedral one must reside fifteen days in the "Liberty of the close".
