in the Prado. Greco we were advised to look at as a magnificent painter but not as a draughtsman. Later we risked opening the other eye and came to see something of the greatness of the artist.

More impressive even than the paintings of religious subjects, stupendous though they be, is the group of individual portraits of distinguished men of the period, invariably clothed in black with accents of white in the elaborate collars and cuffs [[strikethrough]] of the period and befitting their rank [[/strikethrough]]. Such portraiture is hard to believe even in the presence of these canvases - more existant than people are found to be.

A journey to Toledo made us further acquainted with his portraiture and brought us into the presence of the Burial of Count Orgaz, but that had to be realized at a later date and without a teacher.
