4. Recognize that he has to bring others, including his superiors, into this
5. Signal that we expect an informal "courtship" of getting acquainted
6. Establish a cooperative style of working together
7. Identify our agenda in a positive fashion (by omitting discussion of merely showing The DP, implying that temporary exhibit is not enough)
8. Exhibit respect for his/their agenda and our need to know more about it
9. Inform him about the method of operating we would expect
10. Clarify my role so that he can interpret communications accurately

I expect he will react with a mixture of delight and terror, and I will be surprised if he responds in writing before mid December. Please give me your thoughts on the following questions:

1. Shall we schedule our meeting next year around his/their availability in case one of our dates does not work for him/them?
2. Are you favorably disposed toward a feasibility study in our timetable? This would involve securing funding for it--not our task alone, of course--such studies are usually considered desirable and therefore relatively fundable. I heard a lot about them at a recent Museums conference.
3. Are you pleased with the way I have described how our Board works with each other and how he should view my role? I can amend this information. Because this is a long-distance venture involving many players, it is critical to guard against the inevitable mis-communications. (This question may also help you formulate your thoughts for Lois as she works up committee structure proposals.)

I invite your comments and advice about any points omitted or included.

Please reply before December 20 as I depart for New Mexico on December 23. A reply envelope is enclosed to make this intolerably convenient.

Happy Thanksgiving,
