Mr. David Turner, Director 11/16/88
Museum of Fine Arts
P.O. Box 2087
Santa Fe, NM 87503

Dear David Turner,

Thank you for your letter of October 18 about The Dinner Party. It was welcomed at our recent Board meeting, where Judy described tentative efforts to identify a Santa Fe co-host for an extended showing of the art. Because of the reputation of your museum and the well known character of Santa Fe as a city offering access to diverse historical and contemporary arts, the Board voted to rank Santa Fe as the Number One potential location for the work. We recognize that The Dinner Party is a large project and Santa Fe is demographically a small city. However, our decade of experience has given taught us that big things can be effected by small organizations-- we've always been a small organization!
Acting on our interest in Santa Fe, the Board voted to hold its Annual meeting there in late January or early February, 1989. We invite you and your colleagues to meet us in person, and to determine with us the next steps to take in exploring the feasibility of working together on The Dinner Party. Our meeting routine involves Friday night arrivals and Saturday work sessions. We hope this will not impose an undue burden on you. The date will either be Saturday, January 21 or Saturday, February 4. Is either date impossible for you? If so, please let me know right away.
I will be in Santa Fe for the holidays, as will Board member Elyse Grinstein. We would like to take advantage of that by asking you (and any other Museum colleagues you think should be included) to get together informally with Elyse, Judy and me between December 24 and December 30. This will give us a chance to get acquainted and to compare notes on the existence and status of any long-range plans, priorities, and policies that would affect our organizations' options in a prospective venture. It should enable us to plan the use of our subsequent meeting to best effect.
Judy will be contacting you about possible times to get together in late December. Let me know your thoughts bout how we might best take advantage of those upcoming visits to Santa Fe. You may see opportunities that we should take advantage of, or know of interested people you would like us to meet. Your suggestions would be appreciated.
As you may have realized, the Board regards permanent housing of The Dinner Party as its top priority for action. Our agenda is to see The Dinner Party safely cared for and kept accessible to the general public in a setting appropriate to its aesthetic and intellectual content. However, we are not committed to any specific program for realizing this goal. We seek to
