Dear Connie,
Your letter was forwarded by fax to me here in The Baltic Sea near Estonia. I'm sorry to learn that the [[image]] wears on. There are red shingle roof tops all through this region. Russia was depressing and the Hermitage visit exhilerating. All these treasures hidden away, demanding an effort and pilgrimage. I doubt I'll see them again so I am trying to remember certain things.
Greek vases in a marvelous vast salle.
Islamic, Egyptian
A couple of Gauguins (I'll show you). What an assemblage!
I'll return to Paris July 29th. Go to New York Sept 15th. I'll see if I have a gray Korean knotted necklace for Lella and bring it. If I don't have gray.. TOO BAD.
Mary Jane sent me an intriguing proposal to move into gear. I now have to imagine how to under write and finance her and her editor NEFF on an open-ended basis (including their travel, fax, Fed-EX. et al). I wish I was an enterprise, like the Philadelphia Fabric Workshop, instead of an on again off again income generator. Most of what I earn goes back into the studio or pro bono projects I support like the Nebraska scholarships for the land-locked would-be young artists or Cape Town new design school (workshops we are are organizing with Unesco). I've discussed this with Melvin and it seems the approach should be for me to take on another heavy duty architecture project for the next two years and reserve the proceeds (profit) for the JACOB book project which sounds like a $50,000 budget (minimum) plus additional photo budget. More on this later. I am thinking about it and juggling various ideas. update soon when I return to Paris
Much love to you, Alereze
Shiela
