About this time my father asked me to copy a [[strikethrough]] picture [[/strikethrough]] drawing in a book. It was well selected with reference to my taste in subject (a simple & spirited sketch of a colt) but copying was drudgery & with my best effort I could not come near the proportions.

If I had been forced to take drawing lessons I am certain that it would have discouraged me utterly & disgusted me
