MARCEL DUCHAMP
28 WEST TENTH STREET ยท NEW YORK CITY

June 23, 1960

Dear Mr. Bouche:

I have had a lifelong interest in chess and have great faith in its cultural and intellectual values.

I have become a Voting Member of the American Chess Foundation, a tax exempt, educational organization whose work is described in the enclosed brochure.

Upon invitation, I have accepted the chairmanship of its "Arts Committee for American Chess".

The purpose of my Committee is to enlist the support of people in the world of art: artists, art patrons, gallery owners and museum directors, in order to make possible a greater degree of American participation in the international chess events.

I hope and anticipate that this Committee will obtain, as gifts, an impressive collection of paintings - old and new - which will be exhibited and sold, with the proceeds going to the Foundation. Those who make art contributions to this Committee will be able to avail themselves of the valuable tax-deductibility feature of the gift.

I believe and dare hope that you will be sympathetic to this purpose and will respond favorably to my request that you join as a member of my Committee and help me carry out its purposes. Your membership on this Committee will not require attendance at meetings.

Do please let me hear from you.

Sincerely,
