[[stamp]] THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF THE UNITED STATES [[/stamp]]

I regret very much to have to request you to send me Six men, (Soldiers) with Thirty (30) days rations, and if I can discharge them sooner than that I will do so.

The reason or ground on which I make this application is that a Mr. Allen and two others are in this County endeavoring to hire Freedmen to go West to the State of Miss. They are acting in this matter peacably, conducting themselves orderly an not attempting to induce any [[strikethrough]] contract [[/strikethrough]] Freedmen to violate [[strikethrough]] ther [[/strikethrough]] his contract - Notwithstanding this honorable course they are pursuing [[strikethrough]]and[[/strikethrough]] They have been ordered off by some turbulent citizens and told that they must leave on to-morrow's train (Sunday) I think this is all wrong - and as they are acting at least by consent of Genl Tillson - and as there has not been sufficient made in this County to support the citizens - colored and white - I think it the duty of the U.S. Military
