Mr. Cooper and return said Temple to his duties upon Mr. Butler's plantation.

Mr. Butler- upon my recommendation- reduced to writing, his contract for a portion of the crop- and also drew a new contract for such as desired to work for wages. The freedmen were then assembled, and allowed to sign which of the contracts they preferred, with but a few exceptions- they wisely chose the former.

As far as I was able to ascertain, freedmens affairs are quite satisfactory in McIntosh Co.

Very Respectfully,
Your Obt. Servant.
