Dear Arthur Dove:

I am delighted that you will repaint Red Barge and make its color permanent. Perhaps unknown to me the picture stood in some bad place in Chicago. I did not know that colors were quite so susceptible to atmospheric changes and always attributed cracking to the painting of one layer before the under one was dry, or else to the use of one or more dangerous pigments in combination. You do not tell me in your letter to what address I am to send the Red Barge, so I will be very much obliged if you will write a note to Miss Bier giving specific instructions for the shipment. Does it go to Lyon Road, R. III, Geneva, New York?

I am having a great time with your two pictures of the sun. I was a little skeptical about Red Sun when I first saw it and now it has become my favorite! I hope that you have a delightful summer and that you all keep well. Some day you must come visit us in the mountains of Pennsylvania. We live a very simple life up there and we both work at our own professions. You would find some good subjects in the mines and farms and with the splendid skies over checkerboard landscapes. We are taking a brief trip to England but expect to be back by the middle of July.

Sincerely yours,
Duncan Phillips [[signature]]
