Having studied among otherthings Latin,Greek, Law, some Spanih French, German, and Italian, I finally obtained an A.B. from Cornell in 1903.
My father wished me to become a lawyer, but Idid even worse I became an illustrator, and learned to make money.
Have successfully forgotten all of the above studies including the making of money for the interest that came with the new pah painting. Started painting at the age of 9. Refer to "Modern American Painters, by Samuel Kootz, or earlier book on modern art by Arthur Eddy for the step by step work up to this time.
Primarily,Iam interested in growing ideas into realities. There are so few ideas. One seldom gets a real breeder idea. Two or three in a life time would be enormous. Rembrandt had fine ones like the Old Testament, the Impressions to me are more like the Christians, the Moderns,I speak of my own work, have a new light finding which allows all things to exist or change in relation to each other.
The days of talent and the things "That please the eye" are above over. Genius is necessary for a thing to exist through ta the ages and the modern realizes that applies to to-day.
Of course talent is just as busy growing crowds as genius is in growing individuals, but in a hundredthousand years I dare say that genius will agree and talent will be forgotten. Just at present I have come to the conclusion that one must ha have a means governed by a definite rythmic sense beyond geometrical repetition.
The play or spread or swing of space can only bee felt with this sort of conciousness when it becomes an automatic force.
