Campbell SOUP Company
CAMDEN 1, NEW JERSEY

October 6, 1964

Mr. I.C. Karp
Leo Castelli Gallery
4 East 77th Street
New York, New York

Dear Mr. Karp:

This is to confirm our conversation by phone today in which Campbell Soup Company commissioned Mr. Warhol to do a painting of Campbell's Tomato Soup on a plain neutral background similar to the painting he did in 1962 called "Campbell Tomato Soup Can" which was illustrated on a picture post card copyrighted by Moderna Museet, Stockholm

We are very pleased that Mr. Warhol will be able to undertake this painting at this time and complete it within the next three weeks, for as I mentioned, the company plans to present this to Mr. Oliver G. Willits former Chairman of the Board of Directors, when he retires from the Board of Directors November 20. The painting will undoubtedly be hung in Mr. Willits' home in Haverford if Mr. Warhol would like to know this. As discussed, the sum of $2,000 will include the cost of the painting (measuring 2' x 3') and an appropriate metal frame similar to the one used in framing the Stockholm painting mentioned above.

I would appreciate your contacting me when the painting is ready to discuss how it should be transported to our company's offices here. Rather than risk the hazards og having it shipped at that late date, it may be necessary for one of our people to pick it up and bring back by car.

Since this is to be a surprise for Mr. Willits, we would appreciate it if all publicity concerning this painting be withheld until after November 20. Thank you for your courtesies in arranging this with Mr. Warhol.

Sincerely yours,
William C. Parker
