Dear Mrs. Twachtman,

Our telephone conversation was broken into so much this morning that I want to quote you again what I read you from my letter to Col. Twachtman of June fourth about the hillside picture:—

"As you know, Mrs. Twachtman sent down to us not long ago two small sketches and I want her permission and yours to have the one of the house cleaned and lined before we do anything about offering it. This I suppose will cost $50. or so but it will be money very well spent. That is, the frame and the restoration will probably total up to about $100. but it will give the picture very much more than $100. worth of added value when sold. May I go ahead and have this put in shape?

I am perfectly willing to take care of the expense of this for the present, so with the authority that you have given me this morning, I will go right ahead and have the lining and cleaning done, preparatory to showing it. As I wrote Col. Twachtman, I think this will greatly enhance the value of it and we should get some action.

I shall be away next week but shall be here throughout the first week in August, so any day that week that you want to come down, I shall be more than glad to see you, only please let me know a day or two in advance both as to the day and the time of day that you are likely to be here.

With kind regards, I am

Sincerely yours,

Dictated by Mr. Macbeth
