Sir, I have seen your last orders in relation to binding out Negro children till of lawful age. I wish to make the following inquiry, I have three children born and raised in my family, their father lives in Virginia. If you should authorise our [[strikethrough]] Notary Public [[/strikethrough]] Ordinary to bind them them to me, could their father come afterwards, and take them from me? If so, I don't want them, would not like to have a fight with a Negro, about his children. one is a boy 14, one a girl 12, one a girl 10 years of age, with me they will be taught to spell read and write, a tolerable home, I am a practicing physician, My wife is teaching a female shool, (white) myself and wife constitute the family The little Negroes are now spelling, and as proud of it, as you are of your communication.
Please write to me on the receipt of this, and if your binding out, is binding till they are of lawfull age authorise the [[strikethrough]] Notary Public [[/strikethrough]] Ordinary of Rome to bind them to me, and oblige yours, Dr Hugh Brown
