Head Quarters Dist. of E. Tennessee
Inspector General's Office
Chattanooga Tenn. Nov. 16/65

General:
Being desirous of obtaining a Commission in the Regular Army (should our Reg't. be mustered out and it seems to be the prevailing opinion that it will be before long) I would respectfully ask you to give me whatever testimonials in regard to my character and abilities you can conscienciously, to aid me in procuring such Commission.

I beg you to pardon my intrusion upon your time and patience, but I know of no other person of so much influence so well acquainted with my military capabilities as the General under whom I have served, and should you deem me worthy of said position, a testimonial to that effect will be gratefully received and duly appreciated.

I am General
Very Respectfully yours &c.
