good workers, not turned off for any fault but simply because I am unable to feed a surplus gang of negroes
When freedom was first announced I was the owner of upwards of 70 negroes. 13 have left me, 5 men, 1 boy, the others women and children. 8 field hands. Thus you perceev I was also crippled in my work by the strongest of my force leaving me. Please inform me by earliest opportunity what arrangement I had better make with the negroes I propose to send to you. Shall I send them to Augusta. I will keep them if desired till Christmas or will send them before if preferred. If you will give your letter to Estes Clark they will forward it to me.
On the other side you will find list of negroes.
Respectfully,
