Athens Dec 12th 1865

Gen D. Tilson

Dear Sir

From the fact that you have failed to reply to a respectful letter of inquiry which I had the honor to address to you some time ago, I infer that it never reached your hands.

I regret to learn that an impression prevails among the colored people and others that the Committee whom you named are indifferent concerning the appointment of an Agent here. Permit me to assure you, Sir, that this is a mistake. They have sought to secure the services of such a man as would be acceptable to you, to the Freedmen and the whites, and could we have had a reply to my inquiry, the recommendation would have reached you some time ago.

Very respectfully
J H Christy
