why in the last week he has had several mules taken from the place, beside other important articles.  He told me that he felt convinced, it was useless to attempt to farm there - for there was not a week, that something was not stolen from the place, and he did not think at the end of the year it would pay for the expenses - unless he could get a man every way qualified for it, which he has no hope of procuring -

Genl he (Capt Slaughter) now says he thinks the best way to settle it will be to hand it over to some responsible person just as it was given to the government, & knowing how very much I am [[?]], and what I have lost, he is anxious to give it into my hands - Will you be so kind as to write to him to manage it as he thinks best? or give your authority to me to get it from him? If I am not mistaken it will give me the opportunity of supporting my mother, paying my cloth, & restoring to the lady her plantation just as it was given up - I shall be so much, so much obliged, if you will telegraph to me to submit [[?]] to Capt Slaughter, he is an excellent man & I know will do what is right
