I left a guard there, and went to the house of Mr Augustus Lampkin Father of Wm Lampkin, found there that he had not been heard of since last Tuesday, when he was in company with Robt Lampkin and Lewis Lovitt, left a guard there and sent Mr. Blanchard to his home, returned to Robt Lampkin's and went into Camp at six in the evening of the 5th inst. At eight o clock, that evening, I divided my remaining men into two squads, one under Capt Ketchum to go to the house of Dr. Casey, where these men were in the habit of visiting, the others I took myself and went to the house of Miss Lampkin (widow) Mother of Robt, surrounded and entered it about 12 o clock that night, found no one there but the lady of the house, and her daughter, her son had not been there for over a week, and no one knew anything of his whereabouts, returned to my Camp at about 3.A.M. together with Capt Ketchum's squad. Capt Ketchum entered the house of Dr. Casey, and found only the Doctor at home. The Doctor told him that Robt Lampkin had been there Tuesday evening and that he the (Doctor) had advised him to clear out, and he would see Gen Stedman himself, being an acquaintance, as he said of the negro, and explain to him the circumstances of his killing the negro, after gaining what information I could concerning the killing of the negro from both White and Colored
