Asst Adjt General:

Sir:
I have the honor to report that I have entered upon the duties set forth in Special Orders No. 12 dated Head Qrs. Asst. Commissioner's office, Augusta Ga Oct. 24th 1865.

I find no class of persons here as yet, but what are self supporting. I am told that there are about three hundred children here. There are three schools in operation, with colored teachers. I have had no time to visit them yet; but the teachers tell me that they are in need of books. There is a confederate Store house here, which will answer for a School house with some repairs. It is now occupied by the U.S.T. Agent for the storage of cotton.
