Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
OFFICE ACTING SUB ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT OF THOMASVILLE,
THOMASVILLE, GEORGIA, DEC 25th 1865.

Capt W. W. Deane
Asst. Adjt. General
B. R. F & A. L. State of Georgia

Sir:
I received your Order directing me to take the census, on the 20th inst and have been about it since. Being pressed with the complaints of colored people, relatind to their being turned away without pay, and dividing the products of those willing to share with their labours; I was unable to attend to the census myself, and applied to Col. Bogert County, Sub. Dist Altamahar for a Commissioned Officer of the 103 U.S.T. but failing in this, I employed a minister, a citizen of this town for two days at five dollars per day, at the end of which time I succeeded in securing the services of an Officer. I will have it completed so as to forward the first of the month.

Very Respectfully your Obt. Servt.
