Griffin, Ga.
Oct 9th 1866.

Gen A.E. Wild:
Sir, I have been informed by Lieut Col Springer commander of the post that you are authorized to order transportation for Reffugees that are destitute of means to remove to their former homes. I wrote you on this subject sometime ago, but have not heard from you as yet. I presume you did not receive my letter, as there was no regular mails at that time.

My home is at Cartersville N.C. and it will be impossible for me to remain here during the winter as I am unable to pay the extravagant prices asked here for house rent fire-wood, provisions & C.

My friends at Cartersville propose to assist me by furnishing subsistence for myself & family the coming winter, if I could succeed in getting transportation. I am informed that the State will furnish me transportation over the W & A. R. Road. from Atlanta to Cartersville. I have six in family, and we will certainly suffer the coming winter if we dont get assistance from some quarter. I earnestly beg of you transportation from this place to Atlanta for myself and family and a small lot of furniture, and household goods. Whether you can grant my request or not, you will oblige me by writing to me, and giving me some information as to what steps to take in order to succeed.
yours most respectfully
Mrs S H. Smith.
