Office A.S.A Comr Bureau R.F. & A.L.
Savannah Ga Nov 1" 1865
Captain
Your communication of the 30 inst referring to the rent of the Chatham Artillery Building in this city is duly received. The instructions will be carried into execution.
I rejoice exceedingly that even the amount of rent named in your note, is likely to find its way to the use of this department, through the Quarter Master! I was instructed by Genl Howard, to arrange for schools, and Building for the same. To remove Guyton Hospital etc. I now have to pay rent for all school Buildings, as there are now, none for such purposes in the hands of the Govt. A very large field of important labor in here, open to the Bureau for myself or some one else to accomplish. But how it will be done without means or moneys "God only knows"!
I would respectfully ask for definite instructions how to meet current expenses for school rent money Hospital Etc.
