Columbus Ga. Nov. 12th 1865

Major
Sir
Your communication of the 8th in regards to furnishing hands is received. in reply I would say without a doubt the desired number for both contracts can be furnished from this district. There is a large surplus of laborers occasioned by being refugees from Miss. and other states.

The whole number cannot be furnished immediately but by sending them off in squads of 40 or 50 all could be had that would be wanted. Some would have small families and I think it would be best to send them so as the families could cook &c. for the men.

Both contracts are very liberal ones yet I believe the former one mentioned will be the best for an industrious man. Please send the instructions in regards to transportation. also if men of small families could be furnished transportation for them.

Respectfully
Your ob't Serv't.
