OFFICE SUB-ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER
Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
Savannah, Ga., November 16th 1865.

Captain,
I would respectfully inquire what rule,(if any) is adopted by the Bureau, to adjust claims from owners of buildings used by authority of proper officer, for schools, Refugees or Freedmens Camp or Home and for other necessary purposes.

There are several claims brought to me for the use of Buildings, runing back in some cases, as far as last winter. Among the claims are the Widdow Styles whose building is now, and has for some months been used for colored school. The Foundry for Refugee camp, The old city Hotel, belonging to heirs, The Executor of this Hotel property, claim indemnity as well as all the res., None of the buildings have named were ever taken as abandoned property by the Bureau, But the owners had authority to take possion of the property by the officers in communal some months ago.

Please instruct me, what must be said to such claimants
