I therefore beg to call the matter to your attention in the hope that you will give me some instructions or suggestions as to what course should or may be taken, consistently with the views of yourself and Gen. Steedman. We wish particularly to know whether or not the negroes are allowed to have fire-arms, and if not whether there is any allowable mode of disarming them.

Lt. Krautz 175 NY Infy who commanded a small garrison at this place until it was withdrawn last month, deprived a number of negroes of their private fire-arms and said that he had an order to deprive all whom he might find in possession of arms. We are in doubt on this point.
