Head QuartersFreedman Bureau
Columbus Ga Dec 18th 1868

Genl -

Sir
I received notice that the census, prescribed in the 2" Par of Circular No 2. should be completed at once.

The reason of my delay in this matter, is this - the small-pox has been raging in this place for some time - and it has been impossible to get help to do as required. If the disease should get amongst our soldiers, it would be a serious affair it is mostly confined amongst the Freedmen. I will have the census completed and forwarded just as soon as I possibly can.

Very Respectfully
Your Obedient Servant
P. Slaughter
Capt & A.S.A Freed Bureau
