Permit me to make another statement to you concerning the people that live on the place of Mrs Stanard. I have told you that this man Jones came here and represented as being sent by Genl Howard he said the place was was rented by the government for five years for the benefit of the colored people that was on the place,  That he was ordered by Genl Howard to report to the nearest Agent of the Freedmen Bureau – he reported to me and went on to take possession of the place when he (Jones) went to the place.  he found a white man on the place that was left there by Mrs Stanard - he gave the place up to Jones & he went on and raised a crop and gathered it and sold it. I sold all the stock and everything that he found on the place when he went there & he, Jones, ran away and has not been heard of since. After Jones was gone I heard of five of the mules about fifty miles from here and sent for them & brought them back & put them on the place, as I supposed they belonged to the Bureau in a short time after I got the mules back. There was one stolen that one I have not heard from. The other four are on the place [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] yet.
