General
In consequence of the worn out and exhausted condition of my lands, together with my age and the allmost total loss of my hearing & inability to attend to my business - my negroes for several years have not made a support upon my exhausted lands; and from Idleness and other causes the present year not more than a half support. Arrangements were made to distribute the one half of my negroes at the close of this year to my children & grand children from the conviction that one half would do as well if not better than the whole  The close of the war, and the extinction of Slavery makes it absolutely necessary for one half or more of them to secure homes elsewhere  I have upon my Monroe
