There are three colored persons in this city, an old man & his daughter, & a young woman an acquaintance, all belonging to Mississippi
The old man, Lewis Thompson, has been in this state & Alabama, gathering up the former slaves of his old master, consisting of men, women, & children, sending them back to the old plantation
He is here for his daughter, without sufficient means to pay their fare through. I am satisfied, that to aid them to get home will not only be beneficial to them, but it will work good for all concerned.
This old man is one of honor, & I fully endorse him. The third person named, is Jane Jackson whom I know to be a very worthy girl, she also desires to return to the plantation of her old master in Mississippi. I know she has not money to take her there, & I know she is not changing her residence in a fickle mood, but that she may be with her family & maintains herself.
These people are all respectable & fires, I think, help
Very Respy
