General - In the case of insubordination robbery &c of the freedmen in my employ, which I reported to you, I have the pleasure to state that Capt Thompson promptly took the matter in charge in his own person & with the happiest results so far - He discharged the boys Walton & Handy.  The latter who has a considerable family on the place who would have probably suffered much if compelled to leave with him, I agreed, upon the most strenuous promises of amendment to allow to remain. 

Capt T was thoroughly satisfied that the case was a most heinous one & upon their own admission.

They have done more work in 4 days since those in 3 weeks before.  He gave them excellent
