This Bureau has no appropriation for the payment of teacher and any contract to pay from funds of the Govt was unauthorized. | Waco, Texas. March 30th 1869. States that she taught school in Louisiana commencing March 20th 1867 under contract to receive $60 per month. has not been paid for all time she was engaged in teaching in consequence of failure of crops from which the fund was collected. States that she has helpless father to support and asks if she can be paid for the services rendered and for which she has received no compensation. |

States that he learns from Tallahassee that the school law for Fla. is becoming operative and that Mr Chase Supt. of Schools, asks for money to aid in building school houses &c Desires that the appropriation for Fla. be made as large as possible |

They remained during the winter and spring months when there was no employment, allowed them to overdraw their wages, that they then left without any cause or giving notice: that having broken their contract, deemed it fair to charge them rent for the house occupied by them for nearly four months, at $5 per mo. for which I had their goods seized and placed in the hands of W.S. Jarboe, Constable for sale. &c |
