June 13th, 1938

Dear Mr. Howard:

I thank you for your letter of June 6th, and beg to enclose herein photographs of the three paintings which we have secured for your exhibition from the J. Horace Harding Estate.

In this connection, I have a bit of good news for you as we were informed that these paintings are insured by their owner, and it will only be necessary for you to cover them for the Museum's contingent liability which, as you undoubtedly know, means that the respective insurance company does not renounce recourse against your institution. I would, therefore, suggest to arrange with your own underwriters coverage against such emergency for which I am certain the premium will be very low.

As far as our own paintings are concerned, they will all be available for your exhibition - subject to their being not sold - with the exception of the Raeburn, "Portrait of Sir William Murray of Ochtertyre" which we just sold a few days ago.

Should you need further information, please do not fail to communicate with me.

Yours very sincerely,

(O. A. Liechti)
