New York City.

Dear Mr. Seligmann:

I am planning for the fall, from October 2nd to October 30th, an exhibition of works of British painters. It is my hope to secure a not too large exhibition of the works of rather high quality. As perhaps you realize, there has been in this section of the country a considerable sale of English portraits, many of which have not been of first rate, and it would be an educational and missionary undertaking if a good exhibition could be secured.

I wonder whether you would be able to help with a few pictures by any one of the good 18th century British painters? I realize that any commitments at this time would be only tentative but I am quite anxious to get an idea of how much I can secure for this exhibition and arrange it with some definiteness in advance.

If you will not have any of these pictures available yourself, I wonder if any of your clients could be persuaded to lend to this exhibition? The dates will be during the annual State Fair at Dallas. The Museum, although it was within the grounds during the Centennial celebration, will be, to the best of my knowledge, outside of the State Fair grounds, but the many visitors to the city at that time will give the exhibition a high attendance.

Anything that you can do will be most greatly appreciated.

Very sincerely yours,
Richard Foster Howard
