A painting of the 18th century, French School, by L. L. BOILLY, (1761-1845). "The Grief-stricken Family". A priest, document in hand followed by a nobleman brings bad tidings to a young woman who is surrounded by children, one of the children has its arms around her neck, a weeping servant stands near by.

Louis Leopold BOILLY was born at La Bassee near Lille in 1761. Considering his very careful technique, he was a very prolific painter. In 1786, he gained a price of Frs. 2,000. and was invested with the Legion of Honor. In the Lille Museum, there are a number of his very fine portrait studies, as well as in the Louvre. He died in Paris in 1845.

We wired you yesterday telling you that we intended sending you these paintings and that we were endeavoring to borrow several other very important 18th century French paintings from several of our clients which we have sold in the last year or two.
