Dr. W. R. Valentiner,
Detroit Institute of Art,
Detroit, Mich.

Dear Dr. Valentiner:

I send you herewith photograph of a pair of extraordinary Italian andirons which Germain has just bought. I would not be surprised if you knew them, as they come from the famous collection of Count Della Rosa, who lives near Padua. The are the finest fire dogs that we have had since those which came from the Taylor sale in 1912, and as a matter of fact, we have never had any since. You know how rare they are.

It would interest us very much to know by whom they are, so we thought of asking you. Kindly let me hear from you by return mail.

Following our exhibition in Detroit, I wonder if we couldn't create some interest by publishing in "Art in America" an example of one of the works of art which were exhibited. We recently sold a very fine plate in Limoges enamel by Jean Courtois, and if you think you would care to write anything about it, I would send you a photograph with the particulars.

Germain has just arrived, as I told you in Detroit, and he would like very much to see you. Are you coming to New York in the near future?

With best regards to Mrs. Valentiner and yourself, in which Germain joins me, believe me to be

Yours very sincerely,
