December 8th, 1928.

Dear Dr. Valentiner,

Thank you very much for your kind lines of December 4th. I regret, however, that you are not inclined to express an opinion in regard to the very fine portrait which I showed you.

I intend showing this picture here to one or two clients of mine before I sail at the end of this week. I have several clients in Europe to whom I also wish to show it, and who are buying quality and not attributions. Therefore, I was wondering if you would not give me in writing what you told me spontaneously when I showed you the picture, in reference to the quality, the state of preservation, and the interest of this fifteenth century painting. Your opinion is always very valuable to me, and I would very much regret not having it merely on account of the attribution.

I plan to sail on the Berengaria this Saturday, and I would greatly appreciate it if I could have a little note from you before my departure.

With best regards, kindly believe me

Yours very sincerely,

Dr. W. R. Valentiner,
