Dear Dr. Valentiner:

We have just been given for sale, two extremely important paintings from an American collection, the name of which I have no right to divulge. However the exceptional character of these paintings will allow you to spot it at once!

One is a Roger van der Weyden portrait, and the other a German primitive by Korbeck - of which one wing is in the Chicago Art Institute.

The prices put on these paintings are extremely reasonable.

Please do keep this data strictly confidential.

I know you will be greatly interested to hear about this, and do let me have a few lines from you as to how we could arrange for you to see these paintings - if such is your desire.

With kindest regards, I am,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Séligmann)
